Joshua
15:1–19
1The
allotment for the tribe of Judah, clan by clan, extended down to the territory
of Edom, to the Desert of Zin in the extreme south.
2Their
southern boundary started from the bay at the southern end of the Salt Sea, 3crossed
south of Scorpion Pass, continued on to Zin and went over to the south of
Kadesh Barnea. Then it ran past Hezron up to Addar and curved around to Karka. 4It
then passed along to Azmon and joined the Wadi of Egypt, ending at the sea.
This is their southern boundary.
5The
eastern boundary is the Salt Sea as far as the mouth of the Jordan.
The northern boundary started from the bay of
the sea at the mouth of the Jordan, 6went up to Beth Hoglah and
continued north of Beth Arabah to the Stone of Bohan son of Reuben. 7The
boundary then went up to Debir from the Valley of Achor and turned north to
Gilgal, which faces the Pass of Adummim south of the gorge. It continued along
to the waters of En Shemesh and came out at En Rogel. 8Then it ran
up the Valley of Ben Hinnom along the southern slope of the Jebusite city (that
is, Jerusalem). From there it climbed to the top of the hill west of the Hinnom
Valley at the northern end of the Valley of Rephaim. 9From the
hilltop the boundary headed toward the spring of the waters of Nephtoah, came
out at the towns of Mount Ephron and went down toward Baalah (that is, Kiriath
Jearim). 10Then it curved westward from Baalah to Mount Seir, ran
along the northern slope of Mount Jearim (that is, Kesalon), continued down to
Beth Shemesh and crossed to Timnah. 11It went to the northern slope
of Ekron, turned toward Shikkeron, passed along to Mount Baalah and reached
Jabneel. The boundary ended at the sea.
12The
western boundary is the coastline of the Great Sea.
These are the boundaries around the people of
Judah by their clans.
13In
accordance with the LORD's command to him, Joshua gave to Caleb son of
Jephunneh a portion in Judah--Kiriath Arba, that is, Hebron. (Arba was the
forefather of Anak.) 14From Hebron Caleb drove out the three
Anakites--Sheshai, Ahiman and Talmai--descendants of Anak. 15From
there he marched against the people living in Debir (formerly called Kiriath
Sepher). 16And Caleb said, "I will give my daughter Acsah in
marriage to the man who attacks and captures Kiriath Sepher." 17Othniel
son of Kenaz, Caleb's brother, took it; so Caleb gave his daughter Acsah to him
in marriage.
18One day
when she came to Othniel, she urged him to ask her father for a field. When she
got off her donkey, Caleb asked her, "What can I do for you?"
19She
replied, "Do me a special favor. Since you have given me land in the
Negev, give me also springs of water." So Caleb gave her the upper and
lower springs.
Psalm
122
1A song of
ascents. Of David. I rejoiced with those who said to me, "Let us go to the
house of the LORD." 2Our feet are standing in your gates, O
Jerusalem. 3Jerusalem is built like a city that is closely compacted
together. 4That is where the tribes go up, the tribes of the LORD,
to praise the name of the LORD according to the statute given to Israel. 5There
the thrones for judgment stand, the thrones of the house of David. 6Pray
for the peace of Jerusalem: "May those who love you be secure. 7May
there be peace within your walls and security within your citadels." 8For
the sake of my brothers and friends, I will say, "Peace be within
you." 9For the sake of the house of the LORD our God, I will
seek your prosperity.
Acts
3:11–26
11While the
beggar held on to Peter and John, all the people were astonished and came
running to them in the place called Solomon's Colonnade. 12When
Peter saw this, he said to them: "Men of Israel, why does this surprise
you? Why do you stare at us as if by our own power or godliness we had made
this man walk? 13The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the God of our
fathers, has glorified his servant Jesus. You handed him over to be killed, and
you disowned him before Pilate, though he had decided to let him go. 14You
disowned the Holy and Righteous One and asked that a murderer be released to
you. 15You killed the author of life, but God raised him from the
dead. We are witnesses of this. 16By faith in the name of Jesus,
this man whom you see and know was made strong. It is Jesus' name and the faith
that comes through him that has given this complete healing to him, as you can
all see.
17"Now,
brothers, I know that you acted in ignorance, as did your leaders. 18But
this is how God fulfilled what he had foretold through all the prophets, saying
that his Christ would suffer. 19Repent, then, and turn to God, so
that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the
Lord, 20and that he may send the Christ, who has been appointed for
you--even Jesus. 21He must remain in heaven until the time comes for
God to restore everything, as he promised long ago through his holy prophets. 22For
Moses said, 'The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from
among your own people; you must listen to everything he tells you. 23Anyone
who does not listen to him will be completely cut off from among his people.'
24"Indeed,
all the prophets from Samuel on, as many as have spoken, have foretold these
days. 25And you are heirs of the prophets and of the covenant God
made with your fathers. He said to Abraham, 'Through your offspring all peoples
on earth will be blessed.' 26When God raised up his servant, he sent
him first to you to bless you by turning each of you from your wicked
ways."
